Message From the Superintendent Regarding Pre-K:
Posted on 02/23/2011

You may have been hearing that as a part of the proposed 2011 - 2012 school budget a recommendation has been made to restructure the Universal Pre-K program. Please be assured that under this recommendation there will not be any changes to the instructional or support services offered under this program. Under the Pre-K restructuring, the services will be provided through a competitive Request for Proposals solicited only from highly qualified outside agencies that have established a successful track record of providing similar Pre-K programs in other school districts on Long Island. The outside agencies that have expressed an interest in responding to the District's request for proposals include universities and non-profit organizations. Restructuring the Pre-K program will enable us to offer the same services to our children while saving approximately $800,000 in the District budget for next year and every year for years to come. If you have any questions regarding the Universal Pre-K proposal, please call my office at 516-867-5205 or Ms. Peggy Miller, the Principal of the Columbus Avenue School, at 867-5240.
