Posted on 09/15/2011

The atmosphere was solemn as administrators and students at Freeport High School gathered in the high school auditorium to commemorate the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The high school orchestra, shrouded from the audience by a layer of tulle, played "Evening Prayer" as students joined together for this inspirational assembly. As both the American flag and the New York State flag were presented, JROTC member and Freeport High School senior Stephanie Morales announced the presentation of colors that began the Freeport High School Remembrance of September 11, 2001.

High School Student Government representative Brittany Spell and JROTC member Stephanie Morales shared the emcee honors with Freeport High School Principal Ernest J. Kight, Jr. The moving presentation included patriotic chorale singing, orchestral performances, and a unique twenty-minute student documentary devoted to sharing memories of staff, students and first responders from September 11, 2001. Those attending the assembly were filled with pride as they honored the victims and heroes of that fateful day. There was also a renewed sense of commitment to promoting peace and making the world a better place.
