Freeport Hosts College Fair Among the Largest in Nassau County
Posted on 11/01/2010

Freeport School District recently hosted a College and Career Night for middle and high school students and their families. The event featured more than 170 college admissions counselors, workshops for interested community members, and bank representatives who discussed options for creating college savings accounts. This is the first time the district has hosted a college and career fair of this magnitude.

Colleges in attendance included local, regional and Ivy League schools, such as Harvard and Columbia University, as well as branches of the military. Students and their families had the unique opportunity to visit with each representative, obtain important admissions information, and explore many options without having to travel around the United States. Workshops covered topics such as financial aid, the college search process, online college applications, NCAA requirements and athletic scholarships. College representatives had high praise for our students for being well prepared and for their thoughtful and relevant questions.

Over a thousand students and their families participated in the evening. Dr. Kishore Kuncham, Superintendent of Schools, was thrilled with the overwhelming success of the fair. "We look forward to continuing the College Fair as a tradition in Freeport." Pictured are some highlights from the event.
