For the third consecutive year, the students of the New Visions School of Exploration and Discovery read the most books among the four elementary schools in Freeport, enabling them to come out on top in the Freeport Memorial Library's Summer Reading Club Challenge. New Visions students logged a total of 580 books read over the summer. The school was presented with a trophy and certificate by Freeport Memorial Library Director Ken Bellafiore in a ceremony that was part of the school's PBIS kick-off assembly. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a continuing program that focuses on character development.

"Congratulations to all of you," said Bellafiore in his presentation, "and a special thanks to your school librarian, Ms. Bino, who is always encouraging you to keep reading!"

As part of the ceremony, three students were acknowledged as having read the greatest number of books. They were Daniel Lopez, leading with 75, followed by Karina Rios and Gabriella Rios, sisters who had each logged 66 books.

"We are very proud of our students' achievements as well as our strong connection to the Freeport Memorial Library," said New Visions school librarian Mimi Bino.
