Leo F. Giblyn third-grade student Emilio Pereira had the surprise of a lifetime when his brother, United States Marine Lance Corporal Sigfredo Arturo Velasquez, visited his classroom. Lance Corporal Velasquez has been serving in Afghanistan for the past eight months. His brother, Emilio, had no idea he would be home to celebrate the holidays with his family. The students proudly read a pledge stating that they were adopting Velasquez as their classroom hero. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham presented Velasquez with a framed student-designed piece of artwork symbolizing the Freeport School District's goal of promoting world peace.
