Two Select Chorales Invited to Perform in Philadelphia
Posted on 04/12/2012

The Select Chorales from Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School and J.W. Dodd Middle School boarded separate buses early on Friday, April 13, but they shared a common destination in Philadelphia as invited guests of Temple University. "The students will have so many opportunities to represent our school district and Freeport community with the best we offer." said Arts Coordinator Anne-Marie Hudley-Simmons.

The main focus of their trip is the Urban Choral Celebration at Temple University featuring performances from high school choirs from all over the northeast. The two select chorale groups will participate in a master choral class conducted by the nationally known choral conductor/composer Roger Holland.

As part of their itinerary the students will perform at the Philadelphia Senior Center, Macy's Historic Rotunda and St. George's United Methodist Church. "The students are prepared and quite excited," added Ms. Hudley-Simmons.

In their free time they plan to visit the Museum of African American History, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell as well as other sites in and around historic Philadelphia before their scheduled return home on Sunday night.
