Students Training to Be Future Leaders
Posted on 02/20/2013

The Archer Street Young Managers, a group of aspiring community leaders, meet every Wednesday morning before class to work together on projects geared toward making life better in school and in the larger Freeport community.

These 20 energetic fourth-graders, under the direction of teacher Noreen Puppo, participate in a variety of proactive initiatives, including fundraising through the student-run bookstore, where they sell new and slightly used books to teachers and schoolmates.

They also write letters to and prepare goody bags for Freeport seniors, as they did this past Valentine's Day. "In the spring they will be conducting a food drive to benefit the needy in the village of Freeport…they are also planning a pet toy drive to benefit the Freeport Animal Shelter," said Puppo, describing some of the group's long-range plans.
