Columbus Avenue Kindergartners Ready for Elementary School

The Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Education Center celebrated the advancement of its kindergarten students to the larger school system with a fitting set of outdoor ceremonies that gave parents, grandparents, siblings and friends the opportunity to applaud this first academic milestone.

"I am impressed with how much they have grown over the school year," said Principal Peggy Miller, referring to the group of kindergarten graduates leaving her building for the four district elementary schools. Three separate ceremonies, one for each kindergarten grouping, were the last ones for Miller, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

The front lawn of the school campus provided a picturesque setting for each student to proudly walk up to the podium to receive a certificate of achievement and pose for a quick photo. Freeport Schools Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Dr. Mary Bediako was on hand to observe the procession.

The Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Education Center is the gateway to the school system, providing each student with the appropriate social and academic skills necessary for achievement as they progress in their academic careers.
