Twenty-seven Freeport High School students were officially granted Class of 2013 graduate status in late August, the perfect reward for their continued hard work and perseverance during the summer months. The graduation, attended by family, friends and administrators, was held in the Freeport High School auditorium.

"Today is the day you thought would never come, and one that you will never forget - today is your graduation day," said Summer School Principal Gleni Pena.

"You have persevered and you have achieved," added Board of Education President Debra Mulé in her welcoming address.

Alluding to the challenges presented to Freeport and its students in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy less than one year ago, Superintendent of School Dr. Kishore Kuncham said, "We face so many storms in life and repeated challenges and obstacles. Realize and appreciate every experience and opportunity and keep your life jacket of knowledge handy." Dr. Kuncham, Ms. Mulé and High School Principal Linda Carter congratulated each student as Ms. Pena called them one by one by to receive their diplomas to the heartfelt applause of family and friends.
