The gloomy morning weather could not put a damper on the lively spirits of students who returned for a new school year. All schools in the district opened their doors on Tuesday, Sept. 3 to welcome students back for another year of learning, personal and academic development and achievement.

At Archer Street School, administrators, including Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Special Projects Dr. Mary Bediako along with Board of Education president Debra Mulé, board trustees Michael Pomerico and Anthony Miller and faculty were on hand to greet elementary students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade.

Following the pledge of allegiance, principal Paula Lein gave a warm welcome to students and parents, and encouraged students to work hard to ensure a successful school year. Afterward, a student color guard joined school officials for a ribbon cutting marking the official opening of the school's new playground. The students later participated in a parade of champions event with parents.

At Bayview Avenue School, school spirit was high as elementary students gathered for a first day parade of champions and pep rally on the school's playground. There, students became reacquainted with one another, made new friends and became familiar with their teachers. Students from different grades also sported inspirational banners to start the new school year.
