Hundreds of college-bound Freeport students and their families had the opportunity to speak with representatives from 100 visiting colleges during the annual College and Career Night. A variety of workshops and seminars covering financial aid options and college search strategies were held throughout the building in support of the students' efforts to find the right school to continue their education.

"College and Career Night has been a huge success thanks to the time and dedication of our guidance department, teachers, assistant principals and community," said Principal Linda Carter. "It's always a pleasure to ensure that we are preparing our students for the future."

To better help the students who attended select their next academic home, the guidance department made sure that the gym was densely packed with information booths spanning a wide variety of colleges from all over the country. Posters, brochures, magazines and giveaway items helped encourage students to ask questions and speak about themselves and their future plans with the recruiters. Nassau County was well represented by the presence of Adelphi University, Hofstra University, LIU Post and Molloy College, among others. Thirteen SUNY schools hosted booths, and Harvard University, Penn State University and Ohio State University were three of the more notable out-of state schools.

An informative college application presentation led by Freeport High School guidance counselor Rosemary Garcia was held in the auditorium. She discussed college admissions strategies including the best ways to manage the wide scope of timelines and deadlines.

Volunteers from The United Way of Long Island and the Freeport High School National Honor Society were on hand to help students and their families identify potential sources of financial aid and assistance including FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
