On March 21, Long Island University Post hosted the Best of High School Journalism Awards ceremony for Long Island high school students. Throughout the event, students participated in workshops focusing on the many fields of journalism.
Nicolle Salazar won first place in the Best Opinion/Editorial category. Her article was entitled "FHS Students Need to Aim Higher," from the Summer 2013 issue of Freeport High School's newspaper, Flashings.
