Atkinson Gives Gift of Music
Posted on 12/15/2013

Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School students presented their Winter Festival of the Arts at Freeport High School, providing the community with a musical holiday gift filled with blossoming talent.

The performances included a variety of orchestral, band and chorus groups spreading more holiday cheer with each successive number.

The mariachi band, directed by Justin Friedman, opened the show with two lively numbers, including Jose Feliciano's holiday classic "Feliz Navidad." The fifth-grade chorus, directed by Stephanie Arnell, followed with three songs, including a cheerful rendition of Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri's "Hot Chocolate." The concert orchestra, directed by Mahendra Morales, continued the program with two songs, one of which was Soon Hee Newbold's "Mystic Caravan." The sixth-graders in the select chorus and Atkinson chorus, both directed by Dr. Talonda Thomas, sang back-to-back sets before the concert band, directed by Ronald Federici, performed Jack Rollins and Steve Nelson's "Frosty the Snowman."

The show reached its finale with a very touching presentation of Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," featuring soloists Cindy Legerme and Trentin Chalmers.
