In celebration of Black History Month, students at Dodd were
treated to an inspiring drum performance by African percussion ensemble
Sewa Folee.
Dressed in cultural garb, the four-member ensemble performed
the soulful music of Guinea and Mali in West Africa for the seventh-
and eighth-graders. The group, whose name means "Joyful Music" in the
Malinke language, performed with precision and passion as the students
watched in amazement. Sewa Folee was formed by Dr. John Ward, who
teaches African Drumming at SUNY Old Westbury.
Sewa Folee's performance served to bring culture and history
to life for Dodd students in the heart of Black History Month.
