District Staff Set for Success

Staff members across the district's eight schools gathered for a two-day Superintendent's Conference prior to the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

The first day of the conference featured inspirational speeches by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham to all district staff members including teachers, administrators, clerical and custodial staff. Dr. Kuncham and President Pomerico commended everyone for their dedication, and encouraged them to continue working diligently for the students of Freeport Public Schools.

"Dig deep and continue making a difference," Pomerico said."I know it's easier said than done, but the great staff we have here can undoubtedly do this."

"Let's reflect, celebrate and honor the great work that each one of you does in this wonderful organization," Dr. Kuncham said."This past year, we achieved a graduation rate of more than 82 percent for the second consecutive year. Student success stems from Columbus Avenue School all the way to Freeport High School. Freeport's overall proficiency rates have gone up at a rate that is greater than the state's growth for grades 3 through 8. Freeport exceeded other similar high needs suburban district by a 6 percentage point gain on state assessments in both ELA and math. This is a testament to all of you." Dr. Kuncham stated that"Children must be prepared for a rapidly changing world as balanced global citizens deep rooted at heart in timeless human values. We need to lead with renewed enthusiasm, convert our weakness to strength, obstacles into opportunities, disasters into triumph." He told the staff"We need to accelerate our work and lead courageously as we begin our new school year!

At the conclusion of the first day's assembly, Harry Mohrman Jr., a member of Freeport High School's physical education department, was presented with a plaque by Dr. Kuncham and the Board of Education for his 50 golden years of dedicated service to the district and for inspiring and changing the lives of so many children as a teacher and as a coach.

The second day of the conference featured professional development workshops for faculty members. The district's educators worked with their respective departments to review effective teaching methods, the Common Core Learning Standards and curriculum and instructional tools.

Superintendent's Conference Day served as a motivational and informational assembly for each of the district's staff members.
