At its December Board of Education meeting, the district announced that it had been awarded more than $20,000 from the Freeport Educational Foundation (FEF) towards innovative programs and enrichments activities for students across its seven schools.
The FEF grant program awarded the funds to 11 of the 16 submitted proposals, including Chromebooks for music education at Columbus Avenue, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) related projects at New Visions and J.W. Dodd Middle School and the synthesis of gold nanoparticles at Freeport High School.
A check totaling $20,518 was presented to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and the Board of Education by the Freeport Educational Foundation Board of Directors.
"Thank you to the Freeport Educational Foundation for all of its generosity and hard work to support the additional programs for our schools," said Board of Education President and Freeport Educational Foundation Director Michael Pomerico.
Following presentation of the check, Bayview Avenue third-graders performed winter classic "I Love the Snow." While wearing winter hats and dressed in red, the students sang and danced to the delight of the meeting's attendees.
The Board of Education's December meeting served not only to acknowledge the remarkable work of the FEF in helping to enhance the district's programs, but also to provide a platform for Bayview students to showcase their talents prior to the holiday break.
