Bayview Accepts ‘Astronaut Challenge’

As part of the district's astronomy curriculum, which this year has been expanded following its selection by NASA as the nation's only district with the opportunity to have its students make audio and video contact with astronauts aboard the International Space Station, fourth-graders at Bayview participated in a simulation workshop presented by the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

A member of the Long Island-based museum led students through an 'Astronaut Challenge,' which tasked them with completing activities presenting constraints similar to the ones astronauts face in outer space. Using everyday household items such as soda bottles, rubber gloves, bolts and screws, students worked in groups to complete intricate tasks while being timed.
