The high school's Navy Junior ROTC had its dignity and discipline on full display at the annual Inspection and Battalion Parade before the Board of Education, administrators, Village of Freeport trustees, local war veterans and families.

The program's 236 students performed their drills to perfection and passed their inspection, which was conducted by retired United States Navy Commander and NJROTC Area Four Manager Jimmie Miller. Commander Miller praised the students for representing themselves, their school and their families with excellence and pride. He then joined retired United States Marine Corps. Major Donald R. Moore, Jr. and retired United States Navy Chief Louis Lopez, both current members of the high school's Department of Naval Science, in presenting outstanding cadets with various awards.

"We just got a glimpse of what you go through every single day, but I am very proud of you for your extraordinary and amazing demonstration," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. "You are learning so much from this program, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and how to be better artists, musicians and leaders. You are our superheroes in the making."

Board of Education President Michael Pomerico and Freeport High School Principal Joe Mille each also told the students and their leaders how proud they should be for showcasing such unwavering composure and encouraged them to continue developing their leadership skills.

The parade and inspection was a fascinating display of the dedication of the cadets and staff members of the FHS NJROTC program.
