Students Sharpen Characterization Skills
Posted on 03/20/2019

Once again J.W. Dodd Middle School had the honor of hosting Long Island author Jennifer Wolf Kam, when eighth-grade students were given a special opportunity to participate in a writer's workshop.

Thirty students interested in writing creative fiction participated in the workshop. They were able to sharpen their skills in characterization and then shared their creative writing pieces with the author.

With this, the district generously purchased hardcover copies of Kam's first novel, "Devin Rhodes Is Dead," which won the Children's Book of the Year Award from the National Association of Elementary School Principals. This chilling coming-of-age mystery has captured the attention of the students at Dodd Middle School.
