The district's Board of Education was excited to appoint Daniel Reardon to the position of assistant principal for Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School and Dr. Catalina Castillo to the position of director of grants, funded programs and student achievement at its August board meeting.
Mr. Reardon is a bi-lingual educator that comes to the district with a successful track record in both the classroom and as an administrator. He served as a Spanish teacher from 2008 to 2016 in the Manhasset School District and then took a position in the Mineola School District as the dean of students and supervisor of ENL and dual language.
He is an instructional leader with an extensive knowledge and expertise in ELA, Dual Language Programs and Instructional Technology. This position allowed him to serve in a full-time administrative capacity where he worked with students, teachers and families within the Mineola Middle School (grades 5-8). Following this position, he accepted a promotion to become an assistant principal at the Cold Spring Harbor Junior/Senior High School during the 2018-2019 school year. Reardon's probationary start date was effective Aug. 22, with an anticipated tenure date of Aug. 22, 2023.
Dr. Castillo comes to the Freeport Schools with an extensive administrative background. She worked with the Westbury School District from 2016-2019 and helped shape the district's student enrollment and placement process through their Central Registry. From 2006 through 2014, she served as the building principal for the Charter School of Educational Excellence (grades k-8) in Yonkers, New York. Prior to this position, she was tenured as an assistant principal and served as the middle school principal for one year within the Roosevelt Union Free School District.
Dr. Castillo has several years of experience serving in consulting roles working in the education field for both private and public organizations including the New York State Education Department and The Sage Colleges. Her start date was effective Aug. 23, with an anticipated tenure date of Aug. 23, 2023.
