New Teachers Look Toward the New Year

Freeport's Atkinson School was teeming with fresh opportunities, as district administrators and board of education members welcomed its new staff during the annual First Year Teachers' Orientation. Fourteen new teachers were distributed Chromebooks to kick off the multi-day orientation and were eager to start their new journey at Freeport.

The program opened with Mr. Benjamin Roberts, assistant superintendent for personnel and special projects, introducing board members and administration to the new staff.

Dr. Kishore Kuncham, superintendent of schools, welcomed the new staff. He urged them to bring their passions as educators with them every single day into their classrooms to make a difference for our students. "We are beginning an exciting journey together as you become part of Freeport Public Schools and the Freeport community. You should be the change we want to see in our classrooms, our schools and our community."

Board President Ernest J. Kight, Jr. welcomed the new teachers and advised them to remember they were chosen for a reason. "We are passionate about our students and are here for your success. Your success is our children's success and our children are the most important thing."

For the remainder of the day and in the three days that followed, first-year and second-year teachers participated in the district's targeted professional development program.

The district is excited to welcome its new staff into the Freeport family as school begins on Sept. 3.
