Marching Band Performs at Citi Field

The Freeport High School Red Devil Marching Band had the wonderful opportunity to perform "The Star Spangled Banner" at Citi Field on Sept. 24, under the direction of Michael Lasorsa, Adam Rubin and Color Guard Coaches Shawntee Carter and Jahn Scott.

Freeport students performed with the first time ever "Amazin' Band," which consisted of collaborative sounds from four different high school marching bands from Nassau and Suffolk Counties, including Syosset, Central Islip, and Northport. This combined group created a band consisting of more than 600 talented musicians.

Prior to the joint performance, they participated in sectional rehearsals and were able to make connections with other musicians and build a community of friendships. Workshops were conducted by various participating marching band directors who helped students practice their music and coordinate their color guard routine.

The sections joined together to rehearse the National Anthem outside the stadium. With that, they marched through the left field gate and onto the outfield to perform for the Met's audience. The students who attended made history and enjoyed a Met's win, making this event an evening to remember.
