District Celebrates Top 10 Seniors and Receives Donation

It was a night filled with many celebrations during the district's December Board of Education meeting, as board members and administrators recognized the top 10 students of the Class of 2020 and were honored to be presented with a $52,319 check from the Freeport Education Foundation.

The district congratulates the Class of 2020 top 10: Sheilly Duque (valedictorian), Rosa Medina (salutatorian), Tyler Hawkins (3), Justin Budhu (4), Kiara Chombo (5), Fajr Ali (6), Tamia Cerrate (7), Alexis Jean-Pierre (8), Kerry Stuparich (9) and Lesly-Hannah Gutierrez (10). Board members and administrators introduced each student to the audience and highlighted their accomplishments.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham expressed his appreciation to the students for being hardworking individuals and remaining true to themselves.

"I have known many of you for a long time and you are amazing individuals," Dr. Kuncham said. "What you have accomplished, the journey so far and being in the top 10, is an amazing accomplishment and there is more to come. You are multifaceted and multitalented, and you have excelled in everything from scholarship to leadership, so you are our heroes."

The board meeting also included board members approving a $52,319 donation from the Freeport Education Foundation.

Dr. Kuncham said, "The Freeport Education Foundation has been in existence for almost five years and it has been an amazing support, providing exciting, creative and innovative grants to our schools, teachers and scholarships to the graduating seniors."

The board greatly appreciates this donation, as it will be used to support the implementation of 16 innovative grants in the district. In addition, 10 scholarships of $500 each, will be awarded to 10 graduating seniors.
