The Freeport School District is pleased to announce that the New York State Assembly has awarded the district a grant totaling approximately $750,000 to fund the expansion of the district's four-year old pre-kindergarten programs. With support from State Assemblywoman Judy Griffin, Freeport is one of only 26 districts across the state to receive this funding approved by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The grant will be used to extend Freeport's four-year-old pre-K program, which serves 90 students, from half-day to full-day services at no cost to families.
"Freeport Schools has a strong focus on educating the whole child, beginning with our pre-K students," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham said. "We are proud and grateful to receive this competitive state pre-K expansion grant."
This grant is awarded to school districts based on the quality of their applications and additional factors that address the district's and students' needs. The funding targets districts with the highest-need students in an effort to maximize the number of students in pre-K programs.
