Breaking Borders Brings Communities Together

Freeport High School students welcomed Syosset High School students for the school's Breaking Borders gathering.

Syosset students shadowed Freeport students through their assigned schedules by attending classes, socializing and taking part in the school's Therapy Dog program.

Breaking Borders began five years ago with seven students from Freeport High School and Syosset High School, who met together to discuss different topics that focused on differences and similarities from each school district. Now, the group meets every 4-6 weeks and shares opinions on issues of topical interest.

The encouragement and ideas that flowed between the two schools were remarkable and a positive experience for those involved.
