Freeport Alum Shares Journey to Achieving Ph.D.

Freeport High School recently welcomed Class of 2014 alum Sarah King, who presented a seminar series in science to current students. Ms. King is a graduate student pursuing her Ph.D. degree in biology.

She spoke to students about life after high school, realities of transitioning into college, her failures and successes as a student and her current research.

She spent one year at Nassau Community College and then spent her sophomore year at Binghamton University. She then spent her junior and senior years at Purchase College, State University of New York, where she was awarded the President's Award for Achievement in the School of Natural and Social Sciences and the Outstanding Junior in Biology award.

While pursuing her Ph.D. at University of Chicago, Ms. King's area of focus is developmental and regenerative biology of stem cells.
