Update on COVID-19: E-Learning and Evening/Weekend Events 3/12/2020

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the District has been following the guidance of the Nassau County Department of Health, the New York State Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the New York State Education Department. The District has been providing updates which can be found on our school District website www.freeportschools.org.

The District will continue to maintain our enhanced cleaning and disinfectant protocols through all of our schools. In an abundance of precaution, the District has taken the following actions effective Friday, March 13, 2020:

  • All evening and weekend events have been cancelled through April 20, 2020.
  • All field trips have been cancelled through April 20, 2020.
  • All music events, including the FHS Musical and NYSSMA adjudication, have been postponed until further notice.
  • All athletic games have been cancelled until further notice.
  • The use of our facilities by outside organizations has been cancelled until further notice.

The High School Evening Twilight program, after school activities and athletic practices within our schools will remain as scheduled. Board of Education meetings will continue as scheduled.

Our prior communications on COVID-19 regarding the District's preparedness included the District's communication and E-Learning contingency plan for our students. In the event of an extended school closing, we have taken steps to ensure the continuity of education for our students grades pre-k -12 through either Google Classroom or our Online Resource Center. Additionally, students grades

pre-k - 6 will be receiving instructional packets sent home Friday, March 13,2020 with a letter from your school buildings with specific instructions on our E-Learning platform and digital learning protocols.

We have no confirmed cases of COVID-19. The District will continue to keep you updated. We urge you not to rely on rumors and seek information from verified sources. While it saddens us to make these difficult decisions regarding our school events, as always, the health and safety of our students, staff and community remain our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and continued support during these trying times.
