Senior named Coca-Cola Scholars Program semifinalist

Freeport High School senior and class of 2021 Valedictorian Shyanne Gardner has been named a nationwide semifinalist in the Coca-Cola Scholars Program for her outstanding academic achievements and her dedication to community service.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is one of the nation's most well-known corporate scholarship programs. Since its creation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program has provided more than 6,150 graduating high school seniors with more than $69 million in scholarships from the program.

Shyanne has a weighted GPA 107.631 and will graduate with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with honors in math and science. She is recognized as a National AP Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. She is a member of the Student Government, the Key Club, the Future Problem Solvers Club, the Mathletes Club, the Peer Leaders Club, DECA, and the Varsity Badminton Team. Shyanne is also a member of the National Honor Society, the National Science Honor Society, and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She hopes to attend Yale University or Duke University where she plans to double major in Computer Science and Global Affairs with a future goal of working for the United Nations or a nonprofit international organization.

Shyanne is one of 1,609 semifinalists with 150 becoming Coca-Cola Scholars and receiving a $20,000 college scholarship. Coca-Cola Scholars are chosen based upon their capability to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making positive change in their communities and around the world.
