Dear Freeport Families,
As you have probably heard, on August 26th, the NYS Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Section VIII Committee decided to delay the fall season and plan instead for all three seasons to be played on truncated schedule beginning in January. This was done out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our students, coaches and staff. Following the original statement, the Section VIII Committee released a follow up statement on August 27th stating they would continue to monitor the data regarding the reopening of schools and the effectiveness of the strategies employed for health and safety. Based on this data, they would reassess their position prior to the Governor's September 21st starting date for the fall season.
As of now, we have no further updates regarding the start of the fall season in Nassau County. We will share more information as it becomes available.
