Dodd Middle School's academic enrichment program recently started a new program called Schoolhouse Chess. The program aims to teach students how to play chess using fun characters and stories that are woven into a logical, step-by-step curriculum that begins with basic rules, strategies and tactics. Each one-hour session begins with a 15-minute lesson and the rest of the time is spent practicing the lesson and playing each other in a game of chess. Upon completion of the eight-week Schoolhouse Chess program, students will receive a magnetic travel chess set to continue practicing and playing chess.
