Eighth grade students in the Native Spanish Class at Dodd Middle School completed an essay writing project to help increase the learning process and encourage students to sort ideas, information and analyze material. They researched information from different articles, asked questions to guide their investigation, and brainstormed.
Prior to writing their essays, students reviewed proper writing structure, as well as punctuation, grammar, and critical thinking questions. They also discussed the introduction, body, and conclusion along with their chosen research topic - all in their native Spanish language.
By the end of their project, students understood the importance of writing an outstanding essay in their native language, in which the skills learned will be transferred into English writing and speaking skills.
