On Saturday, Sept. 25 several hundred members of the Freeport School District and Freeport community gathered together to spread the message of peace in honor of International Peace Day, International Nonviolence Day and Mahatma Gandhi's birthday by participating in the 7th Annual Peace Walk. Those joining in the 5K peace walk started at Freeport High School and walked throughout the community. They returned to the high school where everyone was invited to a Family Fun Day filled with rides and activities provided by the Freeport Education Foundation.

"Thank you all for coming today, you are all change makers," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham said. "Today's theme is Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World. Let us think of peace within ourselves, our community, our country and our world." Board of Education President Maria Jordan-Awalom also thanked those who attended. "You are change makers and peace makers. Thank you for being with us today." Senator John Brooks and Legislator Debra Mulé attended and thanked the school district for bringing the community together each year to walk together for peace and understanding.
