The highest academic achieving students from Freeport High School beamed with pride as their families, friends and classmates came together for the induction of 134 new members into the National Honor Society.

After opening remarks from adviser Eileen Shultis, and the presentation of colors from Freeport High School's JROTC, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kishore Kuncham, addressed the new inductees reminding them of where their dedication can take them.

"We are all very proud of your accomplishments and the steps you have taken to achieve this honor tonight. Your desire and drive to push yourself and go above and beyond is a testament to what can be attained when you set goals and never give up," said Dr. Kuncham. "You have proven you have the dedication, wisdom, commitment and empathy to transform lives. You are amazing leaders and changemakers. It is up to you to inspire others by your own actions. Lead the way with your knowledge and help to solve complicated issues through your creativity and collaboration with others."

The officers of the National Honor Society Officers include Michelle Waqass, president; Jayden Easy, vice president; Dorian Trotman, secretary; Austin Patience, treasurer; Donovan Ligonde, student liaison and Divina Boko, director of community service. Each spoke about the four pillars of the National Honor Society character, scholarship, leadership and service and the importance of upholding these pillars as new inductees.
